Adding something valued after a behavior to make it more likely.
What it is
Following a behavior with a preferred outcome. Must actually be reinforcing to that person.
When to use it
Building new skills, encouraging communication attempts.
When NOT to use it
Do not reinforce masking, eye contact, or suppressing stimming.
Examples
Child requests help with AAC → adult immediately helps.
