Letter of Intent

A Letter of Intent is not a legal document. It's the letter you'd write to whoever ends up caring for your loved one — telling them who this person is, how their day works, what soothes them, what to avoid, and who to call. Courts, trustees, and future caregivers rely on it heavily.

Keep it living
Update it once a year, or when routines, medications, or contacts change.
Store copies
Give copies to trusted family, the future trustee, and store one with your will.
Be specific
"Loves music" is fine. "Loves Motown, hates sudden loud voices" is better.
Educational, not legal advice. A Letter of Intent supplements — never replaces — a will, trust, or guardianship documents. Save this device-local draft, print it, then review it with an attorney where appropriate.
